Certificate Courses

The course will impart skills required for production of ornamental fish on breeding, farming and management of ornamental fishes

The following learning outcomes will accrue from the course:

a.    Demonstrate Knowledge on the different fish production systems and appropriate species

b.    Demonstrate skills on how to feed, grade, sample, harvest and market the fish

c.    Demonstrate skills on how to detect and control disease

d.    Be able to monitor water quality parameters and take appropriate action



The objective of this course is to equip learners with competences in standard packing of fish

Competences

At the end of the training the participants should be able to:

  • Select suitable package to package fish
  • Use fish packaging equipment and materials to package fish and fish products while observing health and safety standards 
  • Assess quality of fish packaging


This course will expose the students to management practices in fish hatchery establishment and breeding of the commonly farmed fish in the region

By the end of the course, the students should:

1.    Be able to select the appropriate brood stock

2.    Be in position to carry out fish induced spawning

3.    Be able to care for the newly hatched fish in terms of nutrition and water quality

4.    Be able to care for the fry and fingerlings in terms of, nutrition, water quality, health status, grading and transportation

This course will equip the participants with knowledge and skills in design and construction of the different fish production systems.

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

Ability to design and construct movable tanks for fish production.

 Ability to design and construct an earthen pond fish production unit.

Ability to design an aquaponics production unit.

This course will equip participants with skills in fish handling, value addition and processing.

 At the end of the course the participants should be able to:

1.    Handle, preserve, process, package and market fish and its products

2.    Demonstrate entrepreneurial skills in fish product processing


This course will equip the participants with knowledge and skills in managing the different fish production systems

At the end of the module

Participants will be able to:

  1. Rightfully manage intensive catfish production tanks.
  2.  Ability to manage a cage fish farming business
  3.  Rightfully integrate fish and poultry production.
  4.  Ability to stock and manage an aquaponics production unit.
  5. Rightfully integrate fish and poultry production.
  6. Rightfuly manage an earthen pond production system

This course will deal with the fish nutritional requirements and how they can be met by the available resource in a cost effective manner,

By the end of the course, the students should:

1.    Demonstrate an upgraded understanding of the fish species nutritional requirements

2.    Be able to formulate and prepare different live and artificial fish feeds for the different fish species and size requirements

3.    Be in position to establish the nutritional composition of the available feed sources

4.    Be in position to evaluate the quality of fish feeds

5.    Know the storage requirements of the different fish feeds
